Telefonica’s Millennial Survey reveals Brazilian smartphone usage

78% of young people in Brazil use a Smartphone and 42% use a tablet according to the recently published Millennial Survey conducted by Telefonica. In the study, some 6,700 young people around the world were surveyed to behaviors relating to political, economic and innovation. The numbers are comparable to those recorded in Western Europe and the United States (84%-40% and 79%-56%, respectively) and show a significant increase compared with the same survey last year.

In 2013, 63 percent of respondents in Brazil said they used a smartphone and 24 percent used tablets. The figures are significant as they have already surpassed the use of PCs (69%), while connected TVs are used by 62 percent of respondents.

In Brazil, 68% of respondents claim to use their smartphone to access social networks, 60% for news, 57% for phone calls, 56% to send text messages, 51% to watch online videos, 40% to post videos, 37% to make videos and take photos, 31% to play games, 30% to stream videos, 24% to make a financial transaction and 20% to make a purchase. However, only 5 percent use the devices for advanced activities such as virtual education, discussion forums or mobile banking.
