Brazil WiFi Operator to pick up 3G Data Traffic

Linktel, the Brazilian WiFi operator has activated the EAP-SIM protocol in all its access points to meet the growing 3G offload demand for data traffic, allowing cellular infrastructure to be freed up for voice services in Brazil. TIM Brazil is the first mobile operator to adopt the service.

Linktel is the first Wi-Fi operator to offer Extensible Authentication Protocol – Subscriber Identity Module (EAP-SIM) in it’s wireless access points with capacity to meet the demand of diverting traffic from data for better capacity for voice services.

The company has also invested in new management systems to meet the increase in the volume of internet access through its WiFi network spread throughout Brazil. The first cities to apply 3G offload are Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Barueri, and will also benefit TIM clients, with whom Linktel has roaming a agreement.
