Brazil has blocked Anatel’s 4G Auction

Expected to start next month, the Brazilian telecom regulators notice to auction 4G Bandwidth in September has been suspended by Brazil’s Audit Court (TCU) citing “serious irregularities” in the proposal.

Anatel’s plabn was to auction blocks of 700MHz band – previously used for Analogue TV signal – and allocated to 4G services.

The TCU gave Anatel 15 days to provide more information and respond to questions. It is then up to the TCU to decide whether to approve the auction. The resulting delays could benefit bidding parties since the bandwidth will only be available from 2016.
